The theatre performance HAFT GONBAD “Seven Domes”, inspired by the timeless Persian masterpiece The Seven Beauties (Haft Peykar) by Nezami Ganjavi, written and adapted by Maryam Jami and directed by Nazir Rahguzar, was performed on March 21 in Paris as part of a special Nowruz program, where it was met with a very warm reception from the audience.

This artistic program was organized by the Mahoor Cultural-Art Association as an effort to connect classical Persian literature with contemporary social issues.

The main part of the program was a theatrical performance inspired by Haft Peykar, presented by artists from Afghanistan and France. Using the symbolic structure of the seven domes, the performance addressed themes such as education, identity, and the social position of women in Afghanistan.

In this performance, nine girls from Afghanistan portrayed different experiences of women in contemporary Afghanistan. In the presence of the symbolic character of Bahram Gur, they depicted the struggle for access to education and the effort to preserve human dignity.

One of the most notable scenes featured a symbolic dialogue between a girl from the modern world and Bahram Gur — a scene that challenged traditional perceptions of power and highlighted the contrast between authority and awareness.

The musical section also brought a unique atmosphere to the event through an improvised rubab performance by Kengo Saito, a Japanese-French artist, which was warmly received by the audience.

This program was an example of artists’ efforts to keep Persian literature alive while addressing human and social concerns through the language of theatre.
The recorded music was played by Michel GASCO.
